About

Squizzical

Squizzical, through its predecessor companies, Julian Clark Consulting and GreenTaste, has been assisting organisations to realise value from their research since 1999.

We have worked with more than 100 different organisations from both the public and private sectors to achieve translation impact from their research. We understand research and researchers. We understand the demands of public and private investors. We understand the challenges of translation and achieving success across the valley of death.

Success comes from world class ideas that are nurtured to proof of concept, are promoted by astute researchers, and are developed by agile teams and organisations. Stumble with any one of these and success will be elusive. No amount of market pull can make up for misdirected research push.

This is where Squizzical can assist.

Unlike many others, we have developed an integrated approach - the idea, product and portfolio, the research team, and the organisation. This is all in the context of demonstrating both a sound investment proposition and an unmet market need.

While the majority of our clients present with biotechnology and biomedical research opportunities our insights are also highly valued in other sectors. The challenges of research translation are universal, learnings across disciplines can be inspirational.

What We Do

We adapt our services according to your needs.

Always with a focus on achieving outcomes from research commercialisation. The engagement could be for a single task such as an IP audit or valuation of an investment proposition or it could be for a strategic review of research portfolios or an entire organisation. It could be an operational review of business development processes, governance arrangements and policies. It could be building an investment proposition. It could be due diligence to advise investors.

We also develop longer term relationships with clients to assist with organisation development and ongoing change to enhance translation capabilities.

  • Technology transfer - evaluation, planning and partnering

  • Strategic reviews and plans

  • Commercialisation strategies and opportunity analysis

  • Intellectual property valuation and strategy

  • Organisation change and development

  • Advisory and mentoring

We help our clients to make informed decisions to support research commercialisation.

What’s Unique

Commercialising research is demanding.

It requires a science and technology understanding that is matched by comprehension of unmet market needs. It requires insights into how to navigate the discovery and development journey. Critically, it requires understanding of how to reduce risk while adding value along the journey. Now place this challenge at the public/private sector interface where two cultures meet.

This is where Squizzical’s unique experience and track record can assist.

Through many years of hands on international operational experience commercialising public and private sector research across the valley of death we provide insights that only hands-on experience can deliver. We have experienced the pitfalls, and learnt from them.

But we are not a museum of experiences. We are driven by curiosity, always on the look-out for unexpected or lateral opportunities - underpinned by a systems approach with rigorous analytical thinking. And our solutions are practical.
